The Caprese Salad is one of the most popular Italian salads. It’s refreshing, light, and bright with a burst of flavor from the basil and tomatoes.

The name for this classic salad comes from the island of Capri off the coast of Naples in Italy. The island is famous for its rich culture, stunning landscapes, and delicious food. The best part about this recipe is that it only takes 20 minutes to make!

Ingredients:

  •  1 cup sliced fresh mozzarella cheese
  •  2 large sliced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup sweet basil leaves
  • 4 slices prosciutto di Parma
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions:

  1. Slice the mozzarella into thin pieces and place them on a plate.
  2. Slice up your tomatoes into medium pieces and add them to the plate.
  3. Chop up your basil leaves into small pieces and scatter them over the top of everything else.
  4. Add plenty of olive oil on top
  5. Sprinkle some salt and pepper

The key to getting the right texture is to slice your mozzarella as thinly as possible—you want it to be almost transparent! Try using a mandolin if you have one.

The basil should be cut into small pieces—you don’t want it to overwhelm the other ingredients!
